Building Your Business Casual Wardrobe – On A Budget

I’m officially two months in to my first big girl job, and I am ready to give you my full opinion on everything you need to build a good wardrobe for the office. My office is definitely very casual, but I meet with so many different people throughout the week as a property manager that I like to be a bit more dressed up.

Many people have different ideas of casual, business casual, and business professional, so let’s break down what I think each one is. Casual is jeans and a nicer top (blouse or sweater). Business casual is anything your teacher would wear at school (trousers, skirt, dress – no jeans). Business professional is a suit or really nice dress/skirt (pants/skirt and a blazer or a really nice structured dress). Personally, my favorite places to shop the clearance rack are Old Navy, Shein, American Eagle, and Target.

Now that we’ve got all that sorted, this is what I would buy right now if I needed to start over! For each item, I’ll link three to five options that I would purchase..

TOPS:

Shirt: T.J. Maxx

Skirt: J. Crew ($29!)

I think you need at least five short sleeve blouses that you can mix and match with different bottoms or even cardigans for winter/cold offices. One thing to pay attention to is how much you might need to fidget with your top. I am always running around and it is so frustrating to constantly be tugging or fixing my top.

MY CHOICES:

  1. Shein Pleated Tank – I actually have this and love it! Comes in so many colors and costs around $4.
  2. Shein Flutter Sleeve Top – Again, a million colors and a low pricepoint!
  3. Old Navy Linen Top – Such cute color options and only $15!
  4. Amazon Silk Top – On sale now and 18 colors!
  5. Draper James Top at TJ Maxx – Reese Witherspoon’s brand for $14? Sold!

SWEATERS:

Sweater: Gap (@Sam’s Club for $10!)

Jeans: Target

MY CHOICES:

  1. Shein Striped Crop Sweater – I have this and absolutely love it!
  2. Aerie Polo Sweater – Only $15 and so many colors!
  3. Old Navy Crew Neck – Can’t go wrong with a simple crew neck!
  4. Target Button Front Cardigan – I love this 60s trend that is coming back – so classy!
  5. Gap Crewneck Sweater – Another comfy option on sale!

CARDIGANS:

Top: Shein

Cardigan: American Eagle

Pants: Old Navy

Shoes: Asics

MY CHOICES:

  1. American Eagle Cardigan – This will become a staple if your office runs cold!
  2. Old Navy Crop Cardigan – Fun colors to spice up your more basic tops!
  3. Gap Long Cardigan – In case you don’t like the shorter look of the other two!

PANTS:

Top: Shein

Pants: American Eagle

MY CHOICES:

  1. Gap Linen Pants at Sam’s – So comfy and cute!
  2. Shein Elastic Taper Pants – These are cheap in price and quality but they do look nice!
  3. Old Navy Chino Pants – I just love my Old Navy pants because they are so easy to wash and never wrinkle!
  4. H&M Slacks – A great option in lots of colors!
  5. Target Wide-Leg Trouser – A nice wide-leg option with petite and tall versions!

SKIRTS:

Sweater: American Eagle

Skirt: Banana Republic

Boots: Target

Purse: Zara

MY CHOICES:

  1. Old Navy Linen Skirt – Cannot beat this deal and it’s elastic!
  2. Shein Maxi Floral Skirt – These are so easy to wear and really spice up your outfit!
  3. Target Silk Midi – Great to dress up an outfit a bit more!

DRESSES:

MY CHOICES:

  1. Shein Maxi Print Dress – I have this and love it! It works for so many occasions!
  2. Shein Midi Flowy Dress – Same thing as the first dress!
  3. Old Navy Smocked Midi Dress – This is so cute and looks comfy while still being professional.

BAGS:

I was gifted my work bag, but these are the three I would look at purchasing if I needed a new one. Obviously, you can splurge, but these look elevated enough without breaking the bank.

  1. Amazon Black Tote
  2. Amazon Brown Laptop Bag
  3. Amazon Colorful Bag with Pockets

That’s all for me today! Hope you enjoyed! See you soon!
