I set a goal for myself to read 24 series this year, and I definitely failed. I saw all the BookTubers making 24 books in 2024 graphics, and I was a bit overconfident and said I could do 24 series. That was not my brightest idea. I had to do some rearranging of a few series once I got to October and realized I had 80+ books left in this list alone, ignoring new releases and just other books I might want to read. I switched a few of the original series for some that I read already this year for fun, and I did not get to a few of the series. Next year, I’m doing 25 BOOKS in 2025 (article coming soon), so hopefully I reach that easily.
- Prison Healer Trilogy by Lynette Noni
- COMPLETED – I read this trilogy early in the year and it was so unexpectedly good! @rachelcatherine raved about it, and I normally agree with her tastes. I’m so glad I put it on this list because it was such a unique idea and I flew through them. Our main character Kiva is a healer in the realm’s most dangerous prison who normally just keeps to herself, but all of the sudden she is involved in every dangerous situation possible. I was never sure what was coming next, and this was just so much fun to read!
- Shatter Me Series by Tahereh Mafi
- COMPLETED – This is a favorite of my year! I’ve been wanting to read it for a while, but one of my friends on SAS told me they were her favorite books ever. So, I bumped them up and ended up reading all the books and novellas within a month. I loved Divergent and the Maze Runner, and I have been unable to find something similar to those since I read them. This series was a perfect fit for that dystopian genre that seems to be so hard to find. Our main character Juliette kills people with her touch and has been in prison without light or a change of clothes for months. When she gets out, she realizes the world has been taken over by the Re-Establishment and is a disaster. Definitely a must read!
- Magnolia Parks Universe by Jessa Hastings
- KINDA – This series is not a completed one, so I was aiming to read the 5 out now. Hastings has said she intends to release two more, unsure of release dates. This universe alternates books between two main female characters, Magnolia Parks and Daisy Haites. They both live in high-society London, with Magnolia’s dad being a famous music producer and Daisy’s family running a large mafia branch. These books are just character narrations of life in their shoes and all the side characters that appear throughout. I read 3 of the 5 this year, only because the third ended with some sad news and I procrastinated the other two.
- Kindred’s Curse Series by Penn Cole
- COMPLETED – This was a switch-in for another series (see honorable mentions below), and I’m happy I read it. These books are on Kindle Unlimited and give Throne of Glass vibes. I chose the first one for November book club, and everyone LOVED it. Our main character Diem works as a healer with her mother when all the sudden, her mom disappears. Instantly, there seem to be so many secrets her mom left behind and Diem is scrambling to figure out the mystery. There are only 3 of the 4 books out now, so just waiting for the fourth book’s release date!
- The Empyrean Series by Rebecca Yarros
- COMPLETED – Yarros has said the series will total 5 books, but only 2 are out now. I read those first two this year, and I am anxiously awaiting the 3rd book, releasing in January 2025. This story is kind-of a grown-up Harry Potter but with dragons. It is one of my favorites of the year for sure!
- Maple Hills Series by Hannah Grace
- COMPLETED – So far, this series has three books, Icebreaker, Wildfire, and Daydream. All 3 feature players on a college hockey team, and Hannah Grace has not yet said/decided how many books will be in the series. She did say they may not feature hockey anymore because she doesn’t love writing sports scenes. Of these 3, my favorite was definitely Daydream. These are just cute college romances that were perfect reads during a stressful week.
- The Atlas Six Series by Olivie Blake
- KINDA – I definitely failed this, but I am so ok with that. I love/hated my way through the first one and did the same for the second. The third was just impossible, so I DNF’ed at 30% (took me two weeks to get that far). @madisonkait raves about these, so I was really excited to read them. However, there is no real plot, way too many characters, and just overall felt like I was not smart enough to read them.
- Boys of Tommen Series by Chloe Walsh
- KINDA – At this point, I have finished Binding 13 and Keeping 13. They were both great reads, just so long. They follow a star Irish rugby player and the new girl in school. These books are full of trigger warnings for sure, but I really loved the characters. I have started the third book, which follows one of our main character’s brothers, but there’s no shot I’ll finish that book and the next two by January. Definitely will be continuing in the new year!
- Off Campus Series by Elle Kennedy
- COMPLETED – I zoomed through these college hockey romances during the first week of this year. They are not literature or anything ground-breaking, but they got me through a long plane ride and were good “before bed” books for my first week on the ship.
- The Friend Zone Trilogy by Abby Jimenez
- COMPLETED – I read Jimenez’s Part of Your World and Yours Truly last year and I LOVED them. After reading those, I knew I wanted to read her earlier writing, which is this interconnected trilogy. They are all small town reads that read like an early 2000s rom-com. Definitely worth your time!
- Caraval Trilogy by Stephanie Garber
- COMPLETED – This is a trilogy that could have been one book in my opinion. I loved the first book in this trilogy. It follows Scarlett, a sheltered young girl with a cruel father, finally getting the coveted invitation to Caraval, a magical game run by a man named Legend. As for the second two, it just felt like we were dragging on with side characters and just creating problems to have another book.
- This Woven Kingdom Series by Tahereh Mafi
- COMPLETED – Mafi has said there will eventually be 5 of these, so I have technically only read the first three (all that’s released so far). This is a Persian inspired romantasy story following Alizeh, an heir hidden as a servant, and Kamran, the crown prince. There are lots of twists and dragons, making this world such a great escape that flies by.
- Cruel Prince Trilogy by Holly Black
- NOPE – So, my friend Erin read this series this year and HATED on it so much. I still think I am going to like it because I have different taste than her, but her negative opinions kinda scared me away a bit. I will say I have heard good things from lots of other people and I really think the concept sounds interesting. I’ll definitely be reading in the New Year, I just need to stop procrastinating.
- Belladonna Trilogy by Adalyn Grace
- COMPLETED – This is a gothic, Regency-era fantasy following two cousins and Death. There’s mysteries to solve, societal rules to follow, and lots of scenarios where you can’t tell if things are real or magic. We follow Signa in the first book and shift to Blythe for the second two. I borrowed these from my library and they were such fun and unique reads. This was a consistent 3.5/5 trilogy.
- Powerless Trilogy by Lauren Roberts
- COMPLETED – The third book in this trilogy will be out in February, but I have read the two books and the novella out now. This was such a fun world that I really flew through. It follows Pae, an illegal Ordinary pretending to be Elite, and Kai, the Elite prince tasked with assassinating the Ordinaries. Lots of fun adventure and tension in every book!
- Crescent City Series by Sarah J. Maas
- COMPLETED – In finishing this series, I have read every single one of Sarah J. Maas’s books. I am sad about that because she is just one of my favorite authors, and her books always fly by, no matter how many pages they are. Crescent City is an urban fantasy, basically magical people but also modern technology and terms. It is my least favorite of her three series, but it is still a top series overall for me.
- Vancouver Agitators Series by Meghan Quinn
- COMPLETED – These are just goofy hockey romances that were just a fun time. Here we follow different teammates on the Agitators, 5 in total, through the various tropes we all know and love. Meghan Quinn just knows how to write a fun romance that is always perfect for life’s busy seasons or in between complicated fantasies.
- Shadow and Bone Trilogy by Leigh Bardugo
- NOPE – Just was not in the mood to read this and I do not know why. I want to read it eventually, but there were just always other books that sounded more interesting…
- Red Queen Series by Victoria Aveyard
- NOPE – So I read the first book in this series in the 6th grade right when it came out. I did not realize that there would be more books, so I never finished the series. I got the box set for Christmas, but I just never got to them. Definitely early 2025!
- Six of Crows Duology by Leigh Bardugo
- NOPE – You’re supposed to read Shadow and Bone before this duology so…
- The Naturals Series by Jennifer Lynn Barnes
- COMPLETED – This is like if Criminal Minds and the Fosters had a baby. We follow five teens who have all found themselves not wanting or being able to live at home. They are brilliant minds recruited by the FBI to work on cold cases, but suddenly the cases are maybe not so cold. I loved these so much! I like the idea of a thriller, but it messes with my head when there’s blood and guts. This was enough action without being scary and causing nightmares.
- Once Upon A Broken Heart Trilogy by Stephanie Garber
- NOPE – Since I didn’t love the Caraval series, I just wasn’t in any rush to read this spin-off. It does have such good reviews, so I know I need to read it. As I’ve said 5000000 other times in this post, I’ll read it early 2025!
- Shepherd’s King Duology by Rachel Gillig
- COMPLETED – This is such a unique magic system, but I just don’t know if it was my favorite. The magic is all based on a deck of special cards with a airborne illness spreading quickly. I was just a bit confused during both books, and the second one felt dragged out.
- Lorien Legacies Series by Pittacus Lore
- COMPLETED – I read the first half of this series in middle school and then quickly realized I was maybe a bit too young. Now, I am definitely too old for them, but I read the whole thing anyway. I loved these characters and this world, proven by me reading all 7 books so quickly. These books are based on a group of powerful aliens from another planet who are trying to take refuge on Earth and hide from another planet’s government. Such a good intro to sci-fi!
Looks like I completed 16 of the 24 series… Oh well! I definitely got through some series I loved this year as well as some that had been on my shelves for forever. These and the honorable mentions below will definitely be on my radar for the first part of 2025. I’ll let you know my thoughts!
P.S. HONORABLE MENTIONS (the original series that were just not going to happen but will definitely in 2025):

- Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare (6 total)
